Design-Build Trends Every Owner
and Practitioner Should Know
Join us as we host Lisa Washington, DBIA Executive Director/CEO, as she offers an in-depth look into the current state of design-build across the nation and across various market sectors. Through the exploration of recent research, hear about current trends in the industry and how they are changing traditional processes. Participants will also have the opportunity to better understand the evolution and growth of design-build, including best practices, and how to apply it to their current work environments.
Learning Objectives: 1. Explore recent research findings that look at the current and future state of project delivery. 2. Evaluate the flexibility of design-build. 3. Understand the trade-offs among various design-build procurement approaches such as Best-Value and Progressive Design-Build. 4. Discuss the evolution of best practices that lead to optimal project outcomes. Lisa Washington has been the Executive Director/CEO of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) since 2009 and has more than 25 years of association management experience. She holds a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from the University of Maryland.
Under Washington’s leadership, legislative authority of design-build has grown from 22 to 48 states, the number of DBIA-certified professionals increased from 86 to nearly 7,000 and DBIA’s design-build curriculum – from procurement to post-award execution – was developed. In 2014, the curriculum expanded with the release of DBIA’s first universally applicable design-build best practices. These practices are now widely accepted as the industry standard and nationally recognized as the only source for Design-Build Done Right® education. DBIA released highly anticipated updates to the resource in 2023. Washington was named one of Engineering News Record's (ENR) Top 25 Newsmakers of 2012 and will be inducted into the National Academy of Construction in the fall of 2023 as a transformational leader in the design-build sector. In 2007, she earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential. She has been frequently interviewed by national and trade publications, including The New York Times, Construction in Focus, and ENR, for her perspectives about design-build and the industry. |
